Artist International gets ‘Pro’ rights

Pic based on kid reporter snagging big political interview

Artist International has obtained feature rights to “Going Pro,” the life story of Damon Weaver, the fifth grader who interviewed VP Joseph Biden during the 2008 campaign, and his teacher Brian Zimmerman.

The company began seeking producing partners this week for Andy Callahan’s spec script. Story’s set in a poor, isolated pocket of central Florida as Weaver and Brian Zimmerman — a 10-year-old reporter and his skeptical school teacher — chase down the interview of a lifetime.

Weaver first gained notice when he interviewed Biden for his school’s TV station. He subsequently worked with Diane Sawyer’s producer as the lead reporter on a report about the violence that occurs in his hometown and interviewed President Obama in August 2009.

CAA represents the life rights to Weaver and Zimmerman. Callahan’s repped by CAA and Artist International.
