Cary Elwes, Agnes Bruckner, former “Outsourced” star Rizwan Manji and Egyptian thesp Khaled Nabaway are set to star in the indie drama “The Citizen.”
Sam Kadi is directing from a script by Jazmen Darnell Brown and Samir Younis, based on a story by Kadi.
Nabaway stars as a Lebanese immigrant who wins a green card through the U.S. lottery system and arrives in New York to claim his documents on Sept. 10, 2001. Pic then follows his 10-year path to citizenship in post-9/11 America, including his detainment by homeland security and his deportation trial.
Manji co-stars as a Southeast Asian shop owner with U.S. citizenship who helps the protag.
Kadi is producing with Chris Wyatt and Noel Vega, and production is currently under way in Michigan.
Manji, who recently appeared in Paramount’s “Morning Glory,” is best known for playing Rajiv, the co-manager of the Indian call center on NBC’s “Outsourced.” He’s repped by Buchwald & Associates and Multi-Ethnic Talent.
