Wild Bunch plays ‘Favorite’

Sales unit shops pic at Cannes

In addition to co-financing Stephen Frears’ pic “Lay the Favorite,” Paris-based sales outfit Wild Bunch is handling international sales excluding Australia, Canada, Italy, Scandinavia and the U.S., and shopping the pic to buyers in Cannes.

Pic was acquired by Alliance for Canada, Roadshow for Australia and Svensk Film in Scandinavia.

Italy has been pre-sold and U.S. is in advanced negotiations, though Wild Bunch would not confirm a distributor.

Pic, budgeted under $20 million, toplines Bruce Willis and Rebecca Hall and also has Vince Vaughn in negotiations to star, is produced by Ruby Films’ Paul Trijbits and Randall Emmett’s Emmett/Furla shingle, which is co-financing the pic, along with Anthony Bregman and D.V. DeVincentis.

Peter Gethers will exec produce.

Story is based on the life of Beth Raymer, a professional gambler who started as a cocktail waitress in Las Vegas but rose to become one the world’s most successful professional gamblers.
