Weinstein goes with ‘Details’

Dark comedy stars Tobey Maguire, Elizabeth Banks

PARK CITY — The Weinstein Co. has closed a deal for worldwide rights to Jacob Aaron Estes’ pic “The Details,” which preemed Monday night at the Eccles Theater here in Sundance.

Deal is said to be worth $7 million-$9 million with a P&A commitment north of $10 million, sources say.

Pic, which toplines Tobey Maguire, Elizabeth Banks and Laura Linney, follows the story of a family who discovers raccoons living in their backyard. As they try to eradicate the vandals, a chain reaction of infidelities, extortion, organ donation and murder ensues.

Pic is produced by Mark Gordon, Hagai Shaham and Bryan Zuriff while Mickey Liddell and Jennifer Hilton both exec produce.

Aaron Estes also penned the pic, which is repped by CAA and UTA.

Summit was also said to be vying for the pic.

Deal was negotiated by Weinstein COO David Glasser, head of acquisitions Peter Lawson and Laine Kline, exec VP of legal affairs for Weinstein. CAA and UTA repped on behalf of the filmmakers.
