Marking the first major acquisition at this year’s Sundance Film Fest, Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has nabbed North American rights to Morgan Spurlock’s docu “The Greatest Movie Ever Sold.”

Though several buyers inked deals before Sundance, the fest officially kicked off today and runs through Jan. 30.

“We are thrilled to continue Sony’s longstanding relationship with Morgan,” said SPWA prexy Steve Bersch. “He has an extremely creative and original movie which we think audiences will really embrace.” “Greatest,” about the world of product placement, was one of the more anticipated titles leading up to the fest. Spurlock (“Super Size Me”) co-wrote “Greatest” with Jeremy Chilnick; the pair also shared producing credits with Abbie Hurewitz through Spurlock’s Warrior Poets banner. Snoot Entertainment’s Keith Calder and Jessica Wu also produced.

Docu will go through Sony Pictures Classics for an April launch.

Deal was negotiated by SPWA’s Scott Shooman and Michael Helfand and CAA on behalf of the filmmakers.
