Sony has taken North American distribution on “Great Hope Springs,” the Meryl Streep domestic drama.
Lionsgate Intl. is selling the foreign rights at Cannes. A Sony rep confirmed the domestic deal Sunday.
“Great Hope Springs,” to be directed by David Frankel, centers on a middle-aged couple who, after 30 years of marriage, attend an intense counseling weekend to examine the intimacy issues threatening their marriage. Steve Carell portrays a therapist.
Vanessa Taylor penned the script.
Guymon Casady of Film 360, the feature film production entity of Management 360, and Todd Black for his Escape Artists banner will produce. Mandate president Nathan Kahane, Escape Artists’ Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch and Jessie Nelson will executive produce. Mandate’s Lawrence Grey will co-produce. Escape Artists’ Chris Coggins and Lance Johnson will serve as associate producers.
“Springs” has been included on the Black List of the top unproduced scripts in Hollywood. Streep and Frankel teamed on “The Devil Wears Prada,” which grossed $302.4 million at the worldwide box office.
