Sierra Pictures and Affinity Intl. are teaming to launch sales company Sierra/Affinity to broker international deals for OddLot Entertainment and Bold Films.
The new entity, announced Wednesday, is being created with an eye to being in full operation by the start of the Berlin Film Festival in February.
“This is a means for us all to be smart and aggressive,” Sierra CEO Nick Mayer told Variety. “We think we’re putting ourselves in a position to win over the next three to five years.”
Sierra/Affinity will rep sales of third-party films as well as act as exclusive sales agent for films developed and produced by OddLot Entertainment, Bold Films and Sierra Pictures and partner Incentive Filmed Entertainment.
Sierra/Affinity will be run by Meyer with partner Marc Schaberg who will serve as COO and CFO. OddLot’s founder Gigi Pritzker and Bold Films’ founder Michel Litvak will serve on Sierra/Affinity’s three-person board along with Meyer.
New company is aimed at combining the development, production and financing capabilities of OddLot and Bold and with Sierra’s sales, sourcing and financing infrastructure along with offering co-financing opportunities on film projects.
Sierra/Affinity will operate out of offices in Beverly Hills. Sierra will maintain its White Knuckle production arm in partnership with Brett Ratner, which is aimed at producing action/thrillers. OddLot and Bold will remain as individual production companies and continue joint ventures, including the recently formed Quickdraw Prods. venture with Robert Rodriguez.
Sierra/Affinity will act as the sales rep to both White Knuckle and Quickdraw.
Companies noted that Sierra’s untitled 3D shark thriller and Bold/OddLot’s “Drive,” starring Ryan Gosling, exemplify the type of film Sierra/Affinity will represent in the international sales arena. Drive has domestic distribution with FilmDistrict and the David R. Ellis’ sharkpic is with Relativity.
Meyer and Scharberg formed Sierra as a film finance, production and foreign sales company in June 2009. The shark pic is the first feature produced by Sierra to secure domestic distribution.
