Shine Pictures has optioned feature rights to screenwriter Steve Knight’s “Hummingbird,” on which Knight will make his debut as a director.
Thriller, about an ex-special forces soldier-turned-criminal, is financed by New Regency Prods.; 20th Century Fox will distribute worldwide.
Pic will be co-produced by Shine, New Regency, and Paul Webster , whose credits include “Brighton Rock,” “Atonement,” “Pride and Prejudice,” and Tracey Seaward., whose credits include “The Queen” and “Dirty Pretty Things.”
Project reunites Knight, Webster and Seaward, who collaborated previously on the Knight-penned and Kudos Pictures-produced “Eastern Promises.”
Casting is under way, with shooting expected to start this fall.

Deal for “Hummingbird” was negotiated by Shine Pictures’ Paula Jalfon, Shine Pictures’ senior VP of production, and New Regency’s Eric Roth, New Regency’s executive VP of business affairs, with CAA’s Brian Siberell and United Agents’ Natasha Galloway.
