“A Little Something for Your Birthday,” starring Malin Akerman and James Marsden, will launch foreign sales with Parlay Films at Cannes.

The romantic comedy is the feature directing debut of Michael Engler. Susan Walter wrote the script.

Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin and Alix Madigan-Yorkin will produce. Jennifer Levine, Anonymous Content’s Paul Green, and Walter will exec produce.

Jay Cohen and P. Jennifer Dana at Gersh are packaging the film and will represent North American rights.

“Birthday” centers on a clothing designer (Akerman) who struggles to find love and success after turning 30. Overture Films began developing the project in 2009 after Walter’s script was on the Black List.

Engler’s extensive TV directing credits include “Sex and the City,” “30 Rock,” “Six Feet Under” and “The West Wing.” He’s co-executive producer on Showtime’s “The Big C.”

Anonymous Content produced “The Beaver” and “Winter’s Bone” and recently wrapped “Everybody Loves Whales.” It’s in pre-production on “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World.”
