Irish drama “The Runway” has sold to U.S. specialty distributor Olive Films for North American distribution. Olive will release the film Stateside this fall.
Deal was inked by Olive owner Farhad Arshad and Marina Fuentes, founder and partner of Madrid-based 6 Sales, which is repping international on “Runway,” the feature winner at Ireland’s Galway Festival.
Loosely based on true events, “Runway” turns on a Colombian pilot (Demian Bichir) who crash-lands his plane in Dromoleen, County Cork, in 1983. A 9-year-old with a rudimentary grasp of Spanish persuades the town to club together, fix the plane and build a runway.
Written and directed by Ian Power, “Runway” bows in Irish theaters June 10 through Element Pics. It is produced by Ireland’s Fastnet Films and Luxembourg’s Lucil Film.
“Runway” has sold to Mexico, where Quality Films releases theatrically in September; the Middle East; China; and parts of Latin America; 6 Sales is now negotiating Brazil, Argentina, Italy and U.K., Fuentes said.
