Sexual thriller ”The Paperboy” may be headed to the big screen via Millennium Films.

In a deal announced by Millennium on Friday at Cannes, the production company said it’s acquired the rights to the project, based on the 1995 Peter Dexter novel that Dexter and Pedro Almodovar developed.

Millennium said Matthew McConaughey, Tobey Maguire, Sofia Vergara and Zac Efron star. Lee Daniels is attached to direct and produce with Hilary Shor.

Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, Danny Dimbort and Cassian Elwes are exec producing.

Story focuses on an idealistic Miami reporter who returns to his Florida hometown to investigate the possibly unlawful imprisonment of a death-row inmate.

Production of ”Paperboy” is scheduled for late summer, probably in Louisiana.

CAA assembled the project. Nu Image is handling foreign sales.
