HAF attracts projects from 13 countries

Event includes pics from Stanley Kwan, Chung Mong-hong

Asian filmmakers will line up their next pics at the Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) in March.

Event will include selected projects directed by Hong Kong’s Stanley Kwan, Taiwan’s Chung Mong-hong, Japan’s Shusuke Kaneko, India’s Santosh Sivan and Vietnam’s Bui Thac Chuyen plus offerings from China, France, Finland, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea and Thailand.

“Development and funding of an independent film is often long and arduous. I hope that HAF helps by nurturing relationships and networks that are part of the support system for any filmmaker,” said Roger Garcia, a selector and exec director of the Hong Kong Festival Society.

This year, HAF will also introduce a number of Chinese projects, including “Basement” by Zhao Fei, who has worked as a cinematographer with Chinese helmers Chen Kaige, Zhang Yimou and Tian Zhuangzhuang, and “Crosscurrent,” helmed by Yang Chao, who won a Camera d’Or Special Mention at Cannes.

The ninth HAF will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center March 21-23.
