Gaul ‘Days’ for Gondry

He's set to make his French-language comeback with 'Foam'

Michel Gondry is set to make his French-language comeback with “The Foam of the Days,” an adaptation of Boris Vian’s classic novel.

A surreal love tale, “Days” centers on a young man trying to save his wife from a terrible and strange illness caused by a water lily growing in her lungs.

“Days” has already attracted a flurry of high-profile thesps, including Audrey Tautou, Romain Duris (“Heartbreaker”), Lea Seydoux (“Midnight in Paris”) and Jamel Debbouze (“Outside of the Law”), who are currently in advanced talks.

Luc Bossi’s Paris-based outfit Brio Films is producing. Studiocanal has inked a co-development deal with Brio Films under which Studiocanal will distribute “Days” in France, Germany and U.K. and sell remaining worldwide rights, said Studiocanal chairman-CEO Olivier Courson.

He added that he was looking forward to working again with Bossi, who was Studiocanal’s production partner on the thriller “Prey.” Bossi is co-writing the adaptation with Gondry.

“Studiocanal strives to make French films that often have large international appeal, and this is the best example I’ve ever had: The book is really a cult book, and Michel Gondry is a huge talent,” Courson said.

Studiocanal and Brio are working on the budget, which will be under $28.1 million.

Gondry just wrapped lensing on the Bronx-set “The We and the I.” His first big-budget blockbuster “The Green Hornet” was released this year and grossed a healthy $227.8 million worldwide.

Gondry is repped by CAA.
