Exclusive: Glen Basner’s FilmNation Entertainment is handling international sales on Steven Soderbergh’s tentatively titled male stripper pic “Magic Mike,” toplining Channing Tatum.
Pic, produced by Nick Wechsler, Gregory Jacobs, Reid Carolin and Tatum, is based on Tatum’s real life experience as a stripper in Florida.
Soderbergh is exec producing, Carolin pens the script.
Story centers around a rebellious 19-year-old looking for independence from his family — and for a perfect role model. He meets Magic Mike (played by Tatum) and dives headlong into the world of stripping.
Lensing is skedded to begin in September.
FilmNation’s Cannes slate includes Relativity Media’s yet-to-be-titled Snow White project, toplining Julia Roberts; “Lola Versus,” toplining Greta Gerwig; and Jeff Nichols’ Sundance hit “Take Shelter,” which is screening in Critics’ Week.
It recently announced that it’s fully financing and selling Paranormal Activity creator Oren Peli’s next horror pic, set to lense this summer. And it is handling international sales on Pedro Almodovar’s “The Skin I Live In,” screening in Cannes competition.
