On day one of the Sundance Film Festival, Guy East and Nigel Sinclair’s Exclusive Media Group announced its sales arm, Exclusive Films Intl., is launching a major acquisitions fund to acquire third-party productions and pay guarantees of up to $20 million per film.

The fund, which was set up with capital from the group’s corporate fund (which reps its inhouse productions from Hammer Films, Exclusive Films and Spitfire Pictures), will look to pick up between two and four films per year. This in turn gives EFI international distribution rights to the films.

In addition, the outfit has upped senior vice prexy of production and operations Alex Brunner as EFI’s co-prexy. Brunner, along with Sinclair and exec prexy of international sales Alex Walton, will kick off the fund as they look for projects in Park City this week at Sundance and next month at the Berlin Film Festival.

Fund reps a different source of coin than the group’s capital fund, which has been used to fund pics such as upcoming George Clooney pic “Ides of March” and Miley Cyrus starrer “So Undercover,” both of which were launched at AFM in November.

“We can leverage the equity guarantees with banks which is very important,” said Exclusive chairman East. “It’s a substantial fund to be able to do that. We’re looking for eclectic, opportunistic third-party productions that are bigger-budgeted and star driven and we’re happy to look at actions, romantic comedies and thrillers.”

East and Sinclair added: “We are looking to pick up all international rights or perhaps specific territories and this fund offers us many flexibilities.”

Exclusive Media Group is now in its third year of operation and was founded by strategic Netherlands-based investment group, Cyrte Investments. It encompasses its three development and production labels — Exclusive Films (whose maiden production is Peter Weir’s “The Way Back” and through which “Ides of March” and “So Undercover” were co-financed and co-produced), Hammer Films, which has Daniel Radcliffe starrer “The Woman in Black” in post-production, and docu shingle Spitfire Films

EMG’s tentacles also extend to its U.S. distrib Newmarket Films and its sales and marketing leg Exclusive Films Intl.

It also operates a library of more than 550 pics.
