Dream deal for ‘Tim’

Will be shopped in Toronto

Celluloid Dreams has picked up worldwide rights to Penn Badgley and Imogen Poots starrer “Greetings From Tim Buckley,” which it will shop in Toronto this week.

News of the acquisition comes after the production and sales outfit announced it would be selling Jacques Audiard’s new pic “Rust and Bone,” toplining Marion Cotillard, at the fest this year (Daily Variety, Sept. 8).

“Greetings From Tim Buckley” is helmed by Dan Algrant, who also co-wrote the script with Emma Sheanshang and David Brendal. It follows Buckley’s breakout 1991 performance at his father’s tribute concert.

Pic is lensing in New York City and is produced by Patrick Milling Smith, John N. Hart and Fred Zollo.

Nate Bolotin of XYZ Films acquired the pic on behalf of Celluloid. The two companies are partnered on the genre label Celluloid Nightmares, which will be preeming Indonesian action pic “The Raid” as the opening night film in Toronto’s Midnight Madness program.

Celluloid Dreams, headed by Hengameh Panahi, is also shopping “Chicken With Plums,” which preemed in Venice last week and is directed by “Persepolis” helmers Vincent Paronnaud and Marjane Satrapi.
