‘Dobermann’ sequel announced

Cassel in talks to reprise role

A sequel to 1997’s “Dobermann” is in the works.

Producers Richard Rionda Del Castro of Marco Polo Production and Gilles Thompson of Acteurs Auteurs Associés announced Saturday at Cannes their production partnership in “Dobermann 2: Arm Wrestle (Bras de Fer).”

Vincent Cassel is in negotiations to reprise his role as the charismatic criminal Yann Le Pentrec aka Dobermann. Tchéky Karyo is attached to return to the role of Inspector Crisitini, Dobermann’s chief adversary.

Joël Houssin, who penned the original, is on board for the new script.

Producers plan to shoot next spring in Europe in French and English with an international cast. “Dobermann 2” is budgeted at 25 million euros.

Rionda Del Castro and Thompson will produce, with Gwénaëlle Imbault of N&Co serving as co-producer and Patricia Eberle as executive producer. Rionda Del Castro’s Hannibal Classics will handle world sales on the picture.

Marco Polo Production and AAA are teaming up to produce “Sleight of Hand”  aka Jeux de Main, a French action-comedy starring Gérard Depardieu, Kiefer Sutherland, Johnny Hallyday, Til Schweiger, Thomas Jane, Eric Cantona, Tchéky Karyo and Jon Lovitz. Production begins end of July in Paris.
