Coach 14 takes ‘Ice’

Second Sundance pickup for Paris-based sales company

In a second Sundance pickup, Paris-based sales company Coach 14 has snapped up worldwide rights outside North America to Sundance Dramatic Competition competitor “On the Ice.”

Writer-director Andrew Okpeaha MacLean’s debut feature, set among his native Inupiaq people in Northern Alaska, “Ice” turns on two Inupiaq teen friends suddenly needing to hide a dead body.

Shot in English and Inupiaq, and lit by Brit d.p. Lol Crawley (“Four Lions,” “Ballast”), “Ice” was developed by the Sundance Institute’s Native filmmakers program.

World preeming at Sundance, “Ice” will have its international premiere at the Berlin festival’s Generation 14plus sidebar.

MacLean’s “Sikumi” won the 2008 Sundance Jury Prize in Short Filmmaking. His feature-length docu, “When the Season is Good: Artists of Arctic Alaska,” was acquired for broadcast by French-German cultural broadcaster Arte.

“Ice” is a Silverwood Films presentation in association with Whitewater Films and Goldcrest Films of a Treehead Films production. It was produced by Cara Marcous, Lynette Howell, Marco Londoner and Zhana Londoner. Exec producers include Cary Fukunaga (“Sin nombre”).

Coach 14’s Berlinale-European Film Market lineup also includes Azazel Jacobs’ buzzed Sundance title “Terri,” Matthew Petock’s “A Little Closer,” which world preemed at the Rotterdam Festival, and the market world premiere of Jean-Baptiste Leonetti’s long-in-the-works “Carre Blanc,” a futuristic film noir toplining France’s Sami Bouajila and Julie Gayet.
