ATO buys ‘The Oranges’

Pic snagged after showing at Toronto Intl. Film Festival

ATO Pictures has acquired all North American rights to ensemble comedy “The Oranges” following its Toronto Film Festival showing.

ATO, which made the announcement Friday evening, said it has slated an aggressive platform release for next year.

The Oranges,” set in the New Jersey suburbs, is directed by Julian Farino in his feature film debut and stars Hugh Laurie, Catherine Keener, Oliver Platt, Allison Janney, Alia Shawkat, Adam Brody and Leighton Meestet.

Story centers on two couples — portrayed by Laurie and Keener and by Platt and Janney — who are best friends and neighbors who see their lives goes awry when a daughter returns home for Thanksgiving after a five-year absence.

Produced by Olympus Pictures’ Leslie Urdang and Dean Vanech and Likely Story’s Anthony Bregman, “The Oranges” was written by Ian Helfer and Jay Reiss. ATO head of acquisitions Sarah Lash negotiated the deal with CAA, which brokered it on behalf of Olympus, Likely Story and Jay Reiss.ATO released “Terri,” starring John C. Reilly, and will release “Woman in the Fifth” on Oct. 21.
