Darren Aronofsky will head the jury of the 68th Venice Film Festival.
The U.S. helmer — whose “Black Swan” opened last year’s Lido, en route to Natalie Portman’s Oscar win — is a Venice aficionado who won the Golden Lion in 2008 with “The Wrestler.”
Aronofsky first participated in the Venice competition in 2006 with psychedelic sci-fier “The Fountain.”
The fest praised Aronofsky as “a key figure in contemporary film whose work constantly engages the evolution and mutations of the many languages of art.”
Decision was made by the board of the Venice Biennale, chaired by Paolo Baratta, which accepted the recommendation by festival artistic director Marco Mueller.Venice will run Aug. 31-Sept. 10.
