A3F backs Campanella’s ‘Foosball’

'Despicable Me' exec producer joins 3D toon pic

Spain’s Antena 3 Films has taken a co-production stake in 3D toonpic “Metegol” (Foosball) from Argentinean helmer Juan Jose Campanella (“The Secret in Their Eyes”).

Spanish animator Sergio Pablos, an exec producer on Universal-Illumination Studio’s “Despicable Me,” has joined the project as animation supervisor.

Premium paybox Canal Plus has picked up Spanish pay TV rights.

Budgeted at around $15 million, “Foosball” teams Campanella’s 100 Bares and Catmandu Branded Entertainment, both in Buenos Aires, plus Madrid-based production company Plural-Jempsa.

Adapting a tale by late Argentinean writer-illustrator Roberto Fontanarrosa, the feature turns on an underdog aided by foosball game figures who come to life to take on a soccer star to save their village.

Campanella directs and co-writes alongside Gaston Gorali, Eduardo Sacheri and Axel Kuschevatzky. “Foosball” will be ready for delivery 2012.

Antena 3 Films is the film production arm of DeAPlaneta-owned broadcaster Antena 3, which is required to invest 3% of its annual TV revenues in local film by Spain’s general audiovisual law.
