‘Oslo’ tops Stockholm fest

Joachim Trier pic wins for best film, cinematography

London– Joachim Trier’s “Oslo August 31” won the top film and cinematography prizes at the 22nd Stockholm Film Festival, while Paddy Considine’s “Tyrannosaur” took the award for directorial debut.

Tomas Alfredson’s “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,” which opened the fest Nov. 9, took the Fipresci jury award, selected from films not in the main competition.

The Stockholm Film Fund awarded its inaugural prize of $750,000 in production funding to Swedish helmer Lisa Aschan, to finance her horror project “The Deposit.”

Under the rules of the fund, which is dedicated to support new female talent, Aschan must have the finished film ready to world premiere at next year’s Stockholm fest.

The fest closed Nov. 20 with a gala screening of Pedro Almodovar’s “The Skin I Live In.” The prizes were handed out at a ceremony Nov. 19. Jury was Whit Stillman, who described “Oslo August 31” as “a perfectly painted portrait of a generation.”

Actress prize went to Yohanna Idha for her role in the Swedish pic “Certain People.” Sergei Boriskov took the actor award for Russian drama “Twilight Portrait.”

Lebanese-French co-production “Where Do We Go Now” won two prizes, for best script and best music.

The jury gave special mentions to British actress Olivia Colman for her performance in “Tyrannosaur” and to Australian director Julia Leigh for “Sleeping Beauty.”

Jonathan Levine’s “50/50” won the audience award. Other films that scored well in the audience voting were “Certain People,” “Drive” and “Martha Marcy May Marlene.”

As previously announced, Isabelle Huppert was presented with the fest’s Lifetime Achievement Award, Alejandro Gonzelez Inarritu received the Visionary Award, and local actress Malin Buska won the L’Oreal Paris Rising Star Award.
