Writers react to WGA nominations

Sorkin, Coens chime in on Guild noms

“I’m thrilled that ‘The Social Network’ has been recognized by my peers at the Writers Guild and I’m honored to be nominated in such esteemed company.” — Aaron Sorkin, writer on “The Social Network.”

“We’re honored and are proud of the response the film has received and are especially thrilled for our colleagues.” — Joel & Ethan Coen, writer/directors on “True Grit.”

“It’s hard to keep believing in yourself as a writer; I’m sure most writers feel that way because it’s such an isolating thing, and so (this) has certainly boosted my confidence. I could use it. I think I blocked out the day when it would be announced, because I definitely read my ballot and voted for myself and then when I mailed it off I didn’t pay attention to what day they would be announced. And so when I got the call this morning I was just shocked. Because it’s a small movie and look what it’s been nominated with, it’s hilarious — the disparity in publicity and size and budget, so I didn’t think I had a chance.” — Nicole Holofcener, writer-director of “Please Give.”
