While Lady Gaga was prepping to help promote a new Polaroid camera at the Las Vegas Convention Center on Thursday, Darth Vader and a battalion of Stormtroopers took over Panasonic’s booth on the show floor to hype the “Star Wars” films on Blu-ray.
Fox Home Entertainment used CES to launch pre-orders for the discs, which don’t hit stores until September. Fox has been especially keen on drumming up advanced buzz for its more anticipated titles in order to boost sales.
“The forces of the Empire will be at your disposal to assure the success of this endeavor,” said Darth Vader at the promo stunt.
All six of the “Star Wars” pics will be released in three sets, broken up into the original trilogy, the prequel trilogy and a complete set with three additional discs.
The ‘Star Wars Saga’ is the most anticipated Blu-ray collection since the launch of the high-def format,” said Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment president Mike Dunn. “The epic franchise pioneered sound and visual presentation in theaters and is perfectly suited to do it again in the home, with a viewing experience only possible with Blu-ray.”
