Vfx house sets up new digs in Culver City

Effects studio The Mill L.A. is moving to a new 24 000-square-foot facility in Culver City’s Blackwelder Arts District. The studio includes a new Telecine division headed by colorist Adam Scott, who joins from company parent The Mill London.

“The move reflects a huge endorsement over the past four years from agencies, production companies, directors and edit houses,” said Mill L.A. managing director Ben Hampshire. “We’re fortunate to have in Adam one of the most accomplished and experienced colorists in the business.”

Scott brings nearly 20 years’ experience grading commercials, promos, TV and film projects. Highlights include the Dante Ariola-directed Super Bowl spot “Beetle” for VW and Guy Ritchie Dior commercial “La Recontre,” with Jude Law.

The Mill is known for its work on ad campaigns that include Wieden+Kennedy Portland’s Old Spice “The Man Your Man Could Smell Like.” Vfx technology at the studio includes the newly released Dolby Pro Reference Monitor and the Baselight 4.

“After building a phenomenal team in London, I am looking forward to re-creating that strength and vibrance here in Los Angeles,” said Scott.

Other vfx talent at The Mill L.A. includes Paul O’Shea, vfx supervisor, who worked on Tony Scott’s “Unstoppable”; vfx supervisor and lead 3D artist Andrew Proctor, who worked at both The Mill London and New York; and Sarah Eim, who joined as lead Flame artist, with Coca-Cola’s “Heist” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” among her credits.
