Big Block, a newly minted digital production and design studio, has launched in Santa Monica.

The venture is led by business developer Scott Benson, exec producer Kenny Solomon and Sway Studio founder and creative director Mark Glaser. The partners say they’re backed by an institutional investor who could also help launch a software development group and enable an expansion to New York to take advantage of production tax incentives.

Big Block will specialize in vfx design and finishing for features, TV, web, gaming, mobile and digital automotive content. Management will include members of Glaser’s creative and production team as well as new talent.

Benson is an entrepreneur specializing in growth strategy and operational plans for startup companies. Solomon was a founding partner of creative design and branding studio The Syndicate.

In 2001 Glaser, a former CG supervisor, founded Sway, whose vfx credits, including commercials, promos for Showtime and feature films.

Big Block’s software includes 3D Studio Max, Nuke and Flame, as well as the company’s proprietary real-time 3D driving simulation software.
