It’s unsually quiet in the Spin Room, very subdued, people are joking about it being a library, which of course this place is.
I asked Joe Desantis, communications director of the Gingrich campaign about Newt’s onstage comment objecting to trying to get Republicans fighting each other.
“Republicans want so see which candidate can defeat Barack Obama … Trying to put candidates against each other based on what a campaign strategist may have said lowers the entire rationale of the debate.”
… “It’s the smallness of the questions. There are enormous personal stakes in this election and enormous philosophical stakes as well.”
Yet remember how the debate started: Mitt Romney and Rick Perry not missing an opportunity to go after each other with pithy one liners., contrary to the Reagan commandment (Thou shall not disparage a fellow Republican). Maybe it’s not that the questions have gotten small…
