Fresh off one of the biggest flubs in recent debate history, Rick Perry is making the rounds at morning talk shows, trying to do damage control to revive his fortunes. Tonight, he will make light of it all, delivering a Top Ten List on “Late Show with David Letterman.”

Like Herman Cain, who appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” earlier this week, and plans to appear on Letterman on Nov. 18 Friday, Perry is taking to late night not just to soften his image but to try to get a laugh out of it all, as if to minimize the damage of a genuine campaign crisis. Candidates are no stranger to politicking on post-primetime talk, but what is different is that they are trying to use the venues to emerge from terrible points in their campaign. In other words, being able to laugh it all off is somehow proof of viability.

Perry told talk show host Laura Ingraham that he was also planning to tape a segment for “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.” “You might as well have a little fun with it when you make a mistake like that,” he said, per The Hill. He also told her that one song came to mind in recalling his brain freeze: Britney Spears’ “Oops, I Did It Again.”
