Robert Redford, Mark Ruffalo and Julia Louis-Dreyfus were among the environmentalists who pressed President Obama to reject the Keystone XL pipeline. In the wake of today’s decision to delay the pipeline and study another route, they offered praise.

“Thank You President Obama for standing against corporate cronyism and climate change and stopping to rethink the #KeystoneXL pipeline,” Ruffalo tweeted, before taping an appearance on “Countdown with Keith Olbermann.

Daryl Hannah and David Strathairn were among the other performers who spoke out against the project.

Redford went so far as to release a video, via the Natural Resources Defense Council, thanking Obama for “standing up for big oil, and for standing with your fellow Americans.”

The decision to delay the project could mitigate the unhappiness among prominent environmental activists after Obama decided in September to suspect new ozone rules. Redford was among those who spoke out, saying then that he was “beginning to wonder just where the man stands.”
