Variety’s Justin Kroll reports that Mark Boal, the screenwriter of “Hurt Locker,” had been focused on the team that killed Osama bin Laden as part of a project that will be shot this summer, with Kathryn Bigelow directing.

Now they have an ending.

Kroll writes, “Boal had following the mission for quite some time, thanks to his access to military intelligence and his background as an investigative journalist. For him, the timing of bin Laden’s death could hardly be better: Had it come much later, making changes would’ve been a scramble, but it’s still late enough to maximize the movie’s timeliness.

“Still at issue: location scouting, and the level of security that would be placed on the film.”
