Nic Robertson had blasted Fox News for a report that journalists were being used by the Libyan government as a human shield, preventing a British airstrike, but one of the reporters he targeted, Steve Harrigan, told Huffington Post that he “has a screw loose.”

“This is the first time I’ve been attacked,” he said, on the phone from Tripoli. “[Robertson is] in the same hotel as me. A man could come down and say, ‘what’s up?’ But instead he’s saying I’m lazy, that I’m a liar and that I’m as bad as Gaddafi.”

TV Newser did an interview with Fox News’ defense correspondent, Jennifer Griffin, who said, “I just think this has gotten ugly. I think it’s beneath Nic to be saying these things about Steve Harrigan. If he has something to say he can say it about me. But to question his reporting and why he stayed at the hotel… it’s just nonsense.”

On Monday, Griffin clarified her original report that Fox News had not gone on a government-sponsored trip that she says amounted to “using” of journalists as human shields. In fact, a Fox News security guard was sent with a camera on the trip with other journalists. She later defended her suggestions that journalists were being “used.”
