Rock the Vote co-sponsored a series of events today marking “Democracy Day,” intended to boost civic engagement (and eventual voter registration) with 800 educators teaching a “democracy class.” The sessions use pop culture, video, a classroom discussion and a mock election to show students how to navigate through the election process, and the org got “Glee” star Darren Criss to help kick it off today at Hamilton High School in Los Angeles, left.
Rock the Vote also notes that this is the 40th anniversary of the passage of the 26th Amendment, which dropped the voting age to 18. After all the talk that the amendment would change the dynamics of the electoral process, it still takes moving mountains to get the young adults to the polls.
On the apathy front, check out these results from a Newsweek poll of some 1,000 citizens who were given America’s citizenship test. The length of a senator’s term has people just plain stumped, as well as the whole reason why there was a Cold War.
