Bbm3A day of fury from the LGBT community over Rick Perry’s latest campaign ad has been followed by   parody.

More than a few blogs noted that in the spot, in which Perry says that “there’s something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can’t openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school,” he is wearing nearly the identical jacket that Heath Ledger wore in “Brokeback Mountain.”

What is perhaps most striking about the response to the ad spot is that it has stoked debate among Republicans. Jimmy LaSalvia of the LGBT group GOProud tweeted on Wednesday, “I’ve just about had it with faggots who line their pockets with checks from anti-gay homophobes while throwing the rest of us under the bus.” He was referencing Perry’s pollster, Tony Fabrizio, who is out, but who apparently was against the spot and even told others on the campaign that it was “nuts.” LaSalvia, however, tells Towleroad that Fabrizio should have quit in protest.
