MILAN — An Italo version of Simon Cowell’s hit singing competition “X-Factor” will air on Sky Italia this fall.
The exclusive deal, which runs for two seasons, makes Italy the first TV market to put the show on a pay TV platform. The U.K. original previously aired on pubcaster RAI.
The Italo version will be produced by FremantleMedia Italia, working with Magnolia.
The show, which is in its seventh season in the U.K., airs around the world with 70 editions, including 35 local productions.
FremantleMedia Italia CEO Lorenzo Mieli noted the show’s legs outside television — on the web, on social media, licensing and merchandising.
Sky Italia also will add a live after-show called “Extra Factor” with guests and commentary.
