Fandango Portobello has kicked off world sales on Italo multihyphenate Gianni Di Gregorio’s bittersweet laffer “Gianni e le donne” (“The Salt of Life”), a follow-up to his cult hit “Mid-August Lunch,” ahead of its global launch at Berlin.

“Salt” has been pre-sold by the London-based sales company to France (Pyramide Distribution), Benelux (ABC-Cinemien) and Switzerland (Xenix).

Like “Lunch,” “Salt” stars Di Gregorio himself as a retired Roman slacker dominated by women in his family. This time, though, Gianni tries to rebel by pursuing sexual escapades, with at best mixed results.

Penned by Di Gregorio, who collaborated with Matteo Garrone on the screenplay of “Gomorrah,” and produced by Angelo Barbagallo’s BiBi Films and Isaria Prods. in collaboration with RAI Cinema, “Salt” goes into release in Italy on Feb. 11 via RAI Cinema amid considerable buzz.

Pic will bow as a special presentation in Berlin and also unspool at EFM.

Di Gregorio’s multiprized “Mid-August Lunch” launched at Venice in 2008 and was released by Zeitgeist Films in the U.S. amid critical accolades.
