Michael Eisner certainly doesn't need the money, so the question of his involvement with the Tribune Co. — as is being discussed — boils down to this: How much does he crave being in the thick of the action?
On the plus side, he's old enough to appreciate newspapers, although his relationship with the press suffered near the end of his Disney tenure. And his knowledge of the TV station business — Tribune's other major asset — might be rooted in a much simpler past.
Still, at this point any form of resolution would mark an improvement, and Tribune employees should probably simply follow the ABZ mantra, as in "Anything But Zell."
Full disclosure: Like a lot of people, I'm a former Tribune employee.
