In what could very well be an awards pre-show first, two of Hollywood’s biggest superstars openly mocked the broadcast network carrying the event.
The stars? Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. The network? Of course, the embattled NBC.
Interviewed during NBC’s live Golden Globes pre-show by “Access Hollywood’s” Billy Bush, the host mentioned that they were live on the Peacock.
A punchy Roberts couldn’t resist tweaking Bush: “NBC, you guys are in the toilet right now!”
Bush was taken aback. But standing next to Roberts, Tom Hanks — who’s in line to appear this week on one of Conan O’Brien’s final “Tonight Shows” — couldn’t resist turning the knife with another quip at the Peacock’s expense.
Referring to the precipitation soaking the red carpet, Hanks said: “It was going to rain at 10, but NBC moved it to 11:30!”
Apparently NBC doesn’t need any more bad press — it keeps providing its own platform for folks to pluck the Peacock.
