Disney Channels Worldwide has tapped Sean Cocchia to head Radio Disney.
Cocchia, who will serve as senior VP and g.m. of the radio network, fills the void left by former topper Michael Riley — who was recently named president of ABC Family.
Announcement reps the latest in a string of music chairs (and promotions from within) at Disney’s TV operations, which started with the departure of ABC Entertainment Group prexy Steve McPherson, who was replaced by ABC Family topper Paul Lee.
Cocchia was most recently senior veep of business planning and development for Disney Channels Worldwide.
As part of the change, Disney Channels Worldwide has also named David Cobb as VP of business planning and strategy, filling Cocchia’s previous role.
Promotions were announced by Disney Channels Worldwide prexy Carolina Lightcap.
“These promotions come at a time of dynamic expansion and innovation for our portfolio, and especially as Radio Disney rises to meet the needs of its growing audience of kids, tweens and families,” Lightcap said.
The duo reports to Lightcap, while Cobb will also report to Disney/ABC Networks Group chief financial officer Jewell Engstrom.
Cocchia has been with Disney since 1998. He’ll oversee the Radio Disney network, heard on more than 35 terrestrial radio stations and also via online, satellite radio, iTunes and mobile phone apps.
