Reality logjam on Tuesday

'Wipeout,' 'Got Talent' neck and neck with 'Kitchen'

As another summer driven by reality programming continues at the broadcast networks, ABC’s “Wipeout,” NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” and Fox’s “Hell’s Kitchen” all tied as the top demo draw on Tuesday.

Among adults 18-49, Fox won its two hours and also prevailed for the night with a two-hour installment of “Hell’s Kitchen” (2.9/9 in 18-49, 6.5 million viewers overall), which bounced back reasonably well after being sidelined last week for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game. Head to head at 9 o’clock, “Kitchen” won out over NBC’s “Talent” (3.2/9 to 2.7/8 in adults 18-49), according to preliminary Nielsen estimates.

NBC, which placed second in demos and first in total viewers, started slowly with “Losing It With Jillian” (1.1/4 in 18-49, 3.7 million viewers overall) before surging the rest of the evening with a two-hour episode of “America’s Got Talent” (2.9/9 in 18-49, 10.4 million viewers overall), which dominated the 10 p.m. hour and was the night’s most-watched program overall.

Auds tuned in to ABC for “Wipeout” (2.9/10 in 18-49, 8.3 million viewers overall) but then quickly fled, as numbers dropped sharply for “Downfall” (1.2/3 in 18-49, 3.4 million viewers overall) and then “Primetime: Family Secrets” (0.9/3 in 18-49, 3.0 million viewers overall).

CBS aired repeats of “NCIS” (1.5/5 in 18-49, 9.6 million viewers overall), which was third in demos and first in total viewers, followed by “NCIS: Los Angeles” (1.1/3 in 18-49, 7.1 million viewers overall) and “The Good Wife” (0.9/3 in 18-49, 5.3 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: Fox, 2.9/9; NBC, 2.3/7; ABC, 1.7/5; Univision, 1.7/5; CBS, 1.2/4; CW, 0.3/1.

In total viewers: NBC, 8.1 million; CBS, 7.3 million; Fox, 6.5 million; ABC, 4.9 million; Univision, 4.2 million; CW, 1.0 million.
