“Countdown with Keith Olbermann” exec producer Izzy Povich is departing to launch MSNBC’s upcoming series fronted by Lawrence O’Donnell.
O’Donnell’s as-yet untitled show is slated to debut this fall in the net’s 10 p.m. slot, though Povich’s job begins immediately. Back in June, Olbermann leaked the net’s announcement of O’Donnell’s show via his Twitter feed. At present, MSNBC re-airs Olbermann’s show in the 10 p.m. slot.
There’s no word yet on Povich’s replacement as showrunner of “Countdown.” The producer had worked on Olbermann’s liberal-leaning news/talk hour since its inception in 2003, when she began as a senior producer. Povich has been with MSNBC since 1996.
There’s also no word yet on the net’s plan for the new program, but O’Donnell’s career path is nothing if not varied. He’s had stints in politics, TV punditry, and acting — including bit parts on shows from “The West Wing,” where he was also a writer and producer, to HBO’s “Big Love.”
O’Donnell is guest-hosting “Countdown” for the next two weeks while Olbermann is on vacation.
