NBC/Conan divorce delayed another day; and no, that “Conan on Fox” site isn’t real

Conanonfoxfake An exit agreement between NBC and Conan O’Brien is now expected to be announced on Wednesday.

Peacock is expected to also simultaneously announce, in a separate release, the return of Jay Leno to “The Tonight Show.”

Lawyers once again delayed a final resolution to the O’Brien/NBC divorce as they hammered out final deal points — including severance package details for his show’s staff. An agreement was originally expected over the weekend, then on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, and then today.

“I’m just waiting for this to be done,” said one exhasperated insider close to the talks.

The bizarre nature of the whole Late Night Crisis — now entering its 13th day — took another strange turn on Tuesday, as an anonymous troublemaker whipped up a brief media frenzy by registering the web doman ConanonFox.com (fake image, left).

The site was registered to the “Intellectual Property Department of Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation,” and included a photo of O’Brien and even a logo. But the logo was poorly photoshopped — and even if News Corp. were to quietly register a Conan-related domain, common sense would argue that they wouldn’t do it with their own company name — and they wouldn’t immediately put up a Twitter account when the company hasn’t even begun talks with the host.

The site nonetheless fooled a handful of media organizations, until Fox stepped in and confirmed that it was a hoax. The Twitter account was suspended soon after.

As for O’Brien, the host continues to prep his final week of episodes. Guests this week, as announced on Monday by O’Brien, include Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell and Tom Hanks (who will guest on tonight’s show).

Still confused about what’s going on? Here, maybe it’s better explained by computer animation — and in Mandarin:
