“Memphis Beat” goes on at TNT

TNT is close to renewing its Southern-flavored cop show “Memphis Beat” for a second season.

Series stars Jason Lee as a brilliant police detective who has an intimate connection with the city he serves and a deep love of its musical history.

The Warner Horizon Television series has performed respectably for TNT, picking up steam since its June 22 debut. It’s the second original frosh series of the summer to earn a sophomore year pickup from TNT, following on the heels of the breakout hit “Rizzoli & Isles.”

“Beat” hails from George Clooney and Grant Heslov’s Smokehouse Pictures banner. Skein was created by the husband-and-wife team of Liz Garcia and Josh Harto, who exec produce along with Clooney, Heslov, John Fortenberry and Scott Kaufer.

Series co-stars Alfre Woodard, DJ Qualls, Celia Weston and Sam Hennings.
