You’re with me now.
I’ve whiplash from this episode, “The Last Recruit.” I’m impressed at how they managed to pack so much story into this hour (plus 2 bonus minutes) as well as some great intimate moments between characters.
Kate talking Claire on to the boat (“I was there when he was born”); Desmond talking Sayid out of murder (“What will you tell her?”); Jack and Flocke (“John Locke was not a believer. He was a sucker.”); and of course, Sun and Jin’s reunion, at last.
The Sun-Jin moment was nicely directed by Steve Semel. It was not over the top, and there was a split second of terror, of course, as Sun ran through the ring of sonar thingies planted on the beach by Widmore’s gang to get to her beloved. For just a moment, you gulped and wondered if she was going to be fried. Of course, she wasn’t and the rush of relief added to the poignancy of seeing Jin take Sun in his arms and promise all of us (in English!) that they’d never be apart again. Whew.
Scribes Paul Zbyszewski and Graham Roland also delivered some fabulous lines:
“Of all the cars in Los Angeles, you had to crash into mine.”
“I just shot an unarmed man. I needed a moment.”
“The guy who looks like he stepped off the set of a Burt Reynolds movie.”
