Piers Morgan’s upcoming primetime CNN skein now has a title and an exec producer. “Piers Morgan Tonight” will be produced by Jonathan Wald, former exec producer of NBC’s “Today” and “Nightly News.” Wald was also previously senior veep of CNBC.
Morgan’s skein is set to bow in January.
“Jonathan is tough, funny, smart as hell, incredibly experienced and wants to win,” Morgan said in a statement released by the Turner network. CNN veep Ken Jautz observed that Wald “has the unique ability to produce television that is smart and provocative.”
Most recently, Wald worked for AOL as an adviser on cross-platform programming initiatives.
Wald told Daily Variety he expected the post to have at least one thing in common with his previous positions: “Whether you’re at ‘Nightly News’ or ‘Today’ or CNBC, you’re working with big personalities, and it’s fun.”
But he was cagey about the show’s format and tone.
“I think it’s a function of what Piers brings to it,” Wald said.
