Comic-Con: ‘Burn Notice’ goes the prequel route

As reported by Variety.com editor Erin Maxwell at Comic-Con:Bruce-campbell

It was the Bruce Campbell show at Comic-Con as the actor took over the “Burn Notice” panel in lieu of missing stars Jeffrey Donovan, Gabrielle Anwar and Emmy-nominated Sharon Gless.

Between his dancing, prancing and paying attractive ladies in the audience for compliments, the man formerly known as Ash stole the show and reinforced his status as a Con favorite.

But the real surprise of the panel was when USA Network original programming topper Jeff Wachtel announced to the Comic-Con audience that Bruce Campbell will star and produce in a “Burn Notice” prequel movie for the network.

“This is breaking news,” said Wachtel. “Honestly, we didn’t know if we were going to have this announcement an hour ago.”

It was revealed that the pilot will feature Campbell’s character, Sam Axe, and follow his last assignment as a Navy SEAL before his retirement.

“USA finally got their shit together,” said Campbell to the cheering masses.

Other news from the panel included creator Matt Nix saying he intends to expand the roles of Campbell and Anwar in the upcoming season.

“Thank for giving me the opportunity to entertainment these people more extensively,” Campbell said sarcastically. “Really. I wanted more to do than just drink mojitios in Miami.”
