‘Brother’ hits season high

CBS reality vet is evening's top draw in demos

A hot summer for CBS reality vet “Big Brother” continued Wednesday when it hit a season high on the night and stood as the evening’s top draw in demos. NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” was down, but also scored in the ratings.

According to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, “Big Brother” (2.8 rating/9 share in adults 18-49, 7.9 million viewers overall) controlled Wednesday’s opening hour and rose 8% week to week. The net then fell off from there with encores of “Criminal Minds” (1.7/5 in 18-49, 6.6 million viewers overall) and “CSI: NY” (1.2/4 in 18-49, 6.2 million viewers overall).

At NBC, “Minute to Win It” posted decent numbers at 8 (1.8/6 in 18-49, 6.3 million viewers overall) though settled for a third-place finish in a crowded reality timeslot. It was followed by the “America’s Got Talent” results show (2.6/8 in 18-49, 10.3 million viewers overall), which was at season-low levels but won its hour and was the night’s most-watched program overall. And at 10, a repeat of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (1.7/5 in 18-49, 5.6 million viewers overall) was the top broadcast program in demos.

Fox’s two-hour “Masterchef” (2.2/7 in 18-49, 5.1 million viewers overall) edged up week to week, placing second in both of its hours. The net won the night in 18-49, though.

ABC settled for typically low repeat numbers for its comedies “The Middle” (1.1/4 in 18-49, 4.3 million viewers overall at 8 p.m. and 1.3/4 in 18-49 and 4.5 million viewers overall at 8:30 p.m.), “Modern Family” (1.4/4 in 18-49, 4.1 million viewers overall) and “Cougar Town” (1.1/3 in 18-49, 3.2 million viewers overall) as well as drama “Castle” (0.8/3 in 18-49, 3.3 million viewers overall).

CW aired a repeat of “America’s Next Top Model” (0.5/2 in 18-49, 1.4 million viewers overall) and an original episode of “Plain Jane” (0.4/1 in 18-49, 1.1 million viewers overall). The netlet’s Wednesday premiere, including new college cheerleading series “Hellcats,” bows in two weeks.

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: Fox, 2.2/7; NBC, 2.0/6; CBS, 1.9/6; Univision, 1.7/5; ABC, 1.1/3; CW, 0.4/1.

In total viewers: NBC, 7.4 million; CBS, 6.9 million; Fox, 5.1 million; Univision, 4.1 million; ABC, 3.8 million; CW, 1.2 million.
