‘Bachelorette’ hits six-year high

Reality show bring in big auds

ABC’s “The Bachelorette,” which has emerged as television’s top-rated series in recent weeks, ended its season with strong numbers, including the franchise’s best finale numbers since February 2004.

According to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, “The Bachelorette” averaged a big 3.7 rating/11 share in adults 18-49 and 11.6 million viewers overall for its two-hour finale, with the post-game wrap-up special “After the Final Rose” faring about the same (3.8/11 in 18-49, 11.4 million viewers overall). When final averages are released this afternoon, the show is expected to rise nearly 10% above its finale score of last summer (3.5/10); and for the season, its average outperformed last year’s by 14% in adults 18-49 and by 1.5 million viewers overall.

For the night, ABC more than doubled the demo delivery of runner-up CBS. The Eye net was solid enough throughout with encores of “How I Met Your Mother” (1.5/5 in 18-49, 4.9 million viewers overall), “Rules of Engagement” (1.7/5 in 18-49, 5.4 million viewers overall), “Two and a Half Men” (2.2/6 in 18-49, 8.0 million viewers overall), “The Big Bang Theory” (2.5/7 in 18-49, 8.3 million viewers overall) and “CSI: Miami” (1.4/4 in 18-49, 6.0 million viewers overall). “Big Bang” repped the night’s top-rated program outside of ABC’s “Bachelorette” bonanza.

Elsewhere, Fox again did OK at 8 p.m. with an original “Lie to Me” (1.8/6 in 18-49, 5.5 million viewers overall) before falling off at 9 p.m. with “The Good Guys” (1.1/3 in 18-49, 3.7 million viewers overall), with the latter at least up a tick week to week.

NBC continues to have difficulty establishing any kind of buzz or flow on the night, opening with a repeat of “America’s Got Talent” (1.2/4 in 18-49, 4.7 million viewers overall), followed by original installments of “Last Comic Standing” (1.6/4 in 18-49, 4.2 million viewers overall) and “Dateline” (1.3/4 in 18-49, 4.8 million viewers overall).

And six weeks from their season premieres, CW’s “90210” (0.3/1 in 18-49, 0.9 million viewers overall) and “Gossip Girl” (0.2/1 in 18-49, 0.6 million viewers overall) delivered typically miniscule numbers for repeats.

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: ABC, 3.7/11; CBS, 1.8/5; Univision, 1.8/5; Fox, 1.5/4; NBC, 1.4/4; CW, 0.3/1.

In total viewers: ABC, 11.5 million; CBS, 6.4 million; Fox, 4.6 million; NBC, 4.6 million; Univision, 4.3 million; CW, 0.7 million.
