ABC News’ Davis returns to WABC-TV

Exec named president and G.M. of New York affiliate

ABC News exec veep J. David Davis has been named prexy and G.M. of the ABC Television Stations Group flagship station, WABC-TV in New York. Davis will report to Rebecca S. Campbell, who preceded him in the position and moved up to Group prexy in May. Campbell replaced retiring president and ABC/Disney vet Walter Liss.

The job is a familiar one for Davis: he has managed the station before, from 2003-07.

Effective immediately, Davis is in charge of WABC-TV/Channel 7 and all of its ancillary businesses, including the WABC-TV-produced “Live! with Regis and Kelly.” Davis also oversees the O&O’s digital channel LiveWell HD, its digital local weather channel, and station website 7online.com.

ABC News prexy David Westin stated in a Friday release that he was sorry to see Davis go but convinced he was the right man for his new job. “Our loss is WABC’s gain,” Westin wrote, “and we look forward to working closely with Dave in New York.” Starting in Sept. 2007 Davis worked as Westin’s #2 at ABC News, where he helped to administrate the broadcast news division’s recent large-scale reorganization.

All of Davis’s direct reports at ABC News will now report to Westin.
