HBO has given a series order to the Laura Dern-Mike White laffer “Enlightened.”

Single-camera half-hour stars Dern as a self-destructive woman who has a revelatory experience at a treatment center after she suffers a nervous breakdown. Her determination to live an enlightened life creates unexpected havoc her her at home and work.?

“Enlightened” also stars Diane Ladd (Dern’s real-life mom), Luke Wilson and Sarah Burns. HBO has ordered nine episodes on top of the pilot.

“I am stoked to finally party with HBO,” White said. “I feel lucky to have been given this opportunity to make something original, heartfelt and weird.”

Dern shares his enthusiasm for the project.

“Creating a series with the ever-brave HBO and Mike White has been an incredibly exciting journey for me,” Dern said. “I’m madly in love with my character”.

Production is skedded to begin in the summer.

“Enlightened” pilot was written and directed by White, from a story by White and Dern. White and Dern are exec producers, with David Bernad and Jason Weinberg as producers.
