Chuck Collins, award-winning NBC investigative reporter, died July 9 in Scottsdale, Ariz. following a long illness. He was 60.Collins received multiple Emmys and Peabodys throughout his career. An Illinois native, Collins graduated from Lake Forest College before beginning his television career at WSNS-TV in Chicago. Collins hosted, reported and co-produced the station’s nightly counter-culture program, “Underground News.” He later produced the PBS documentary “Miles to Go Before I Sleep” before joining NBC in 1979. During his tenure there, Collins received awards for work including “Murder by Natural Causes,” “Exploiters: Children for Sale” and “Strip Search.” Survivors include his mother, sister and two sons.
